Ms. Vargas-Crebas is originally from Brazil. She moved to the United States in 2005 and experienced first-hand how difficult it is to navigate the U.S. immigration system. Helen received her law degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) in 2004 and practiced as an attorney in Brazil. In 2016 she received her Master of Laws from Georgia State University. After working for several years at a well-known immigration law firm in Atlanta, she joined the Catholic Charities of Atlanta as a staff attorney. While working at the Catholic Charities, Helen handled a variety of family-based cases, and also provided legal orientation to detainees at Irwin and Stewart Detention Centers. In February 2019 Helen opened her own practice in Atlanta, representing clients with their immigration needs. Since July 2020, she has been working as a part-time VAWA staff attorney at the Latin American Association, assisting survivors of violence. In 2021, Helen was invited to serve as legal advisor for the Brazilian Consulate in Atlanta, an invitation she was honored to accept.  Helen speaks fluent Portuguese and Spanish.
